Our Story

Founded in 2025, E-nangaabe-jig is an Indigenous primary health care organization, committed to building pathways that honour both traditional and clinical approaches, ensuring Indigenous voices lead the way.

Our work is rooted in Two‑Eyed Seeing, trauma‑informed practice, and Indigenous worldviews. We honour all four generations, recognizing that healing moves through families, communities, and time.

Leadership

Founded by the Chiefs of Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Chippewa of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, and Walpole Island (Bkejwanong) First Nation. Governed by a First Nations led board, with the intent to keep indigenous health in indigenous hands.

Our Vision

To uplift Indigenous health through community connection, traditional knowledge, and barrier-free access to culturally responsive care.

Our Name

E-nangaabe-jig [Eh-nung-ah-bay-jig], meaning “those who are star beings,” was gifted through ceremony by Elder Richard Assinewai.

The name reflects a teaching that the knowledge, language, and ways of life of the Nishnaabe people are guided by the stars.

Just as stars work together and guide new stars as they are born, E‑nangaabe‑jig Health Services is rooted in connection, guidance, and mutual support.

Our Logo

The Helping Hands

The base of the logo represents two helping hands connecting. This was done to represent helpers and community, as well as community connecting with ancestors.

Within the helping hands sits symbols representing Land, Water and Sky. Within the Sky section sits abstract cedar branches representing the protection offered by cedar and it’s role as a pathway.

At the top of the helping hands sits the sun, sectioned into two areas representing that a good mind exists in balance, and health means honouring this balance.

Lastly, the top of the hands sits seven stars, representing the seven generations principle and mino bimaadiziwin- living a good life.

The Star Person

At the center of the logo, in the negative space, is the abstract shape of a person. This was done to visually represent the name, E-nangaabe-jig and acknowledge that we are, and everything we do ties back to the Star People.
